The Real Race Starts Today...

As we prepare to celebrate Independence Day next week, Utahans will participate in the local primary election. Some pundits who perpetuate the Myth Machine may say the general election will be decided today. Those who disseminate this rumor do so to defy the reality of this district. A Democrat has won in this District with substantial margins many times in the past—see here and here.

We should not disgrace the legacy of our independence by declaring victory after what amounts to a straw poll in the form of a closed GOP primary as the full expression of the will of the people. In 2002, the last midterm cycle, all of the voters in the closed GOP primary only comprised
6.7% of voters. Additionally, Sherrie Swenson, Salt Lake County Recorder, predicts less than 10% voter turn out in today’s primary. Moreover, this cycle has disproportional amount of undecided voters among registered republicans. After so much publicity between my GOP opponents, this shows discontent for this illusory choice in the closed primary. To close a primary and then declare a winner by pundits is a classic use of the Myth Making Machine. Next week let us celebrate our independence, democracy and the fact that this race has only just begun.

Christian, I wish more people would take the time to look at the issues instead of voting along party lines. I'm a registered Republican but I like what you stand for better than both of the Republican candidates. You can count on my vote this November.

It does not appear, based on your website that you want to win. Your "issues" section is incomplete to say the least. You don't "have the time" to explain your position on more issues? Staying vague is a good way to make SURE you lose in november.

Chris Cannon needs a challenger who "gets it." You don't seem to "get" it.

Not pledging your support (for example) for the 2nd amendment, is just plain politically stupid. Again, why don't you want to win?

Do you support the balanced budget amendment (you should)? If you do, then PUT THAT in the "fiscal responsibility" section.

It looks like you are just another typical democrat that is going to get TROUNCED by Chris Cannon, EVEN THOUGH you could defeat him if you wanted to.

The REALITY, is that most people in Utah are suck ups to Bush, and suckers for his war. If I were you I wouldn't even bring up the war. Instead, start pointing out federal agencies that should be closed (I can think of a dozen easy that should have been closed decades ago, starting with the misnamed federal department of "education.")

Talk about suspending the federal gas tax AND AT THE SAME TIME, sponsoring legislation to order the federal government to start purchasing hydrogen vehicles for it's massive fleet (all the automakers have a hydrogen model that only California cities are buying).

If you don't get it together, Chris Cannon is not going to have ANY competition. Utahns see democrats as tax and spend, anti gun, abortionists. If you can overcome that, you'll have Cannon's seat come november.
